Keeping duplicate files is a good way to waste disk space. It is almost impossible to avoid them. An application may create backups or you can simply copy a file from one place to another, for any reason, and forget to delete it. Trying to find duplicate files with two explorer windows, side by side, is a commendable effort, but fruitless. Using specialized software is the best way to make sure no duplicate file will remain on your hard drive. If you do not have patience with endless sets of options, you can try DupeRAZOR. It will search for cloned files of any type, without making you navigate through separate windows and complex options.

After running the 3 Mb setup file, you will have the options to install a new browser, set a new home page and a default search provider. If you do not want to modify your browser, you can simply uncheck these options. The next steps are straightforward and the installation itself will take a few seconds to complete.

DupeRAZOR's interface is small and there are not many options to find. This makes it possible to start searching for cloned files immediately. To get started, you can click the New Search option on the main area of the interface or the button with the same name, on the left side of the window. Your whole folders structure and network places will be displayed in a tree structure. You can target an entire partition or individual folders by clicking check boxes. When you are done, you can hit the Start Search button, on the interface's lower edge or click the one next to it to reset the selection.

There is no need to set up a search criteria before looking for similar files. The software will find any type of duplicate files, regardless of format, size or other parameters. When the search is done, the files will be displayed in a tree menu, where similar files are grouped together. With the buttons beneath the tree structure, you can auto-select files which are newer, older, the ones which have longer names or paths or the first entries in each group.

The software will let you send the selected files to the Recycle Bin, delete them permanently or back them up to a certain folder. If there are images among the results, you can activate a small preview on the lower part of the window. The backup folder can be selected in the main settings panel, where you will also find options for protecting Windows directories and various customization features.
